"THE MONET CAMOUFLAGE"
performed at ICETANK (London) ; exhibited at PMQ (Hong Kong)
This collection is a sensuous exploration of romance, innocence, and hedonism, blending the aesthetics of East and West in a dreamy, pastel-coloued palette. Drawing inspiration from Ryan McGinley’s evocative photography and the cinematic world of “The World of Suzie Wong” the collection delves into the contrasts and connections between Eastern and Western notions of romance. It tells the story of an Asian individual who, in an attempt to escape fetishisation after a night-out, paints themselves like a Monet painting - hiding in plain sight while celebrating their identity. This narrative became a metaphor for the complex interplay between visibility and invisibility, identity and disguise.
This collection reinterprets the traditional textile printing technique Devoré, applying it to hand-dyed linen loosely knitted with a specially designed transparent yarn, creating a see-through effect that resembles camouflage-like body painting.
This collection is ongoing exploration of cultural hybridity, romanticism, and the use of both fabric and the human body as a canvas for storytelling.
