"KEN"
performed at Labelhood (Shanghai) / Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre (Hong Kong) ; exhibited at Victoria House (London) / London Show ROOMS (Paris)

This collection explores the complex relationship between identity and cultural assimilation, telling the story of a Chinese twink navigating the pressures of Westernisation, In places like Hong Kong, where Western ideals are often idolised, the collection reflects on how these influences shape self-perception and drive individuals to conform, sometimes at the cost of their own heritage. The narrative is a commentary on the current trend among some Asian individuals who, in their quest for acceptance and relationships, feel pressured to reshape themselves to align with Western culture and identity, often at the expense of their unique cultural and personal identity.

The collection reflects on how Ken from Barbie, with his adaptable and undefined nature, symbolises the experience of many young Asian individuals who are navigating the pressures of Westernisation , where the desire to fit into Western standards to make themselves feel superior. Just as Ken can be molded by the desires of the player. this narrative critiques the loss of individuality that can occur in the pursuit of assimilation, where people, like Ken, are seen as blank slates to be shaped by external influence.

The collection employs mohair and meticulously crafted fabrics to create a tactile experience that mirrors Ken’s softness and fluidity. Oversized, romantic silhouettes challenge traditional notions of masculinity, embodying "soft masculinity" - a vision that is sensitive, fluid, and open to reinterpretation.

Ultimately, This collection is a celebration of diversity, and an exploration of the intersection between race, sexuality, and identity in a globalised world. It seeks to question and redefine the notions of beauty and desirability, encouraging a more inclusive approach to self-expression.
