“THE EMPEROR'S NEW CLOTHES”
exhibited at Kalasataman Vapaakaupunking Galleria (Helsinki) / Vald (New York & Paris) / Mahna Mahna (Tokyo)
We often conceal our bodies, nature's exquisite creations, beneath layers of fabric. We invite you to explore a series of mixed-media artworks that celebrate and embrace the hidden body. Inspired by the timeless tale of "The Emperor's New Clothes," these pieces offer a playful commentary on the inherent absurdity of fashion while simultaneously revealing in the unique beauty of our individual forms.
With selections of nude photographs, exploring movement, printed onto large pieces of eco-friendly leftover fabrics. These fabrics are then transformed using the artist's signature devoré technique, a process that creates organic patterns and reveals glimpses of the skin beneath. The result is a captivating interplay between the printed image, the textured fabric, and the transparency that allows the body to peek through.
This collection invites viewers to consider the ways in which fashion can both conceal and reveal our identities. It celebrates the diversity of human forms and movement which challenges societal expectations about beauty and body image. By combining art, fashion, and a touch of whimsy, these artworks offer a fresh perspective on the relationship between our bodies and the world around us.
